We are seeking a Senior Urban Designer to join our Client’s team. In this role you will be reporting directly to the Partnership team. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare urban design drawings of Master Plans and Draft Plans, and zoning changes for urban design, planning, and community planning projects
  • Handle all aspects of urban design on client files including submission of applications
  • Manage client expectations including attending client meetings independently, and providing high quality service to clients
  • Create reports and studies, both written and graphic components
  • Present to the public, Committees and Councils, clients and stakeholders, including attending community consultations as required
  • Attend and conduct meetings with municipal staff as well as provide expert testimony at the OMB
  • Perform and oversee research related to planning policy
  • Create and manage mapping and digital model tools
  • Collaborate with internal departments, external consultants, and government agencies
  • Respond to RFPs and prepare service and fee proposals
  • Create and monitor project budgets
  • Visit sites and take notes as needed
  • Manage projects and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior and intermediate urban design colleagues
  • Partake in business development opportunities and promote the firm
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced knowledge of theory, principles, practices and techniques used in Urban Design and Community Planning, including an understanding of architecture and landscape architecture, development processes, the charrette process, and cartography
  • Advanced understanding of the Ontario Municipal Board and its processes
  • Ability to convey advanced understanding of the GTA planning and urban design policy context, verbally and in writing
  • Advanced understanding of the municipal planning framework and processes
  • Demonstrated advanced competency of software programs, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Sketchup, and Adobe Creative Suite (In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or Planning (with a focus on Urban Design) from an accredited university
  • Minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible, relevant experience in urban design or community planning
  • Membership (or eligible for membership) in professional associations such as the Ontario Association of Architects, Ontario Association of Landscape Architects, or Ontario
    Professional Planners Institute
  • Type G driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Advanced analytical, research, and interpretive skills; able to independently understand and interpret statistical results to reach practical conclusions; ability to manage a research team
  • Ability to convey advanced understanding of planning and urban design policy context
  • Negotiating and the ability to facilitate resolution for urban design issues
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Development and execution of strategic plans, proven track record of delivering growth and profitable results
  • Excels in a high volume, dynamic and fast paced environment and enjoy new challenges
  • Possess highly effective coaching, facilitating, presentation, influencing, & leadership skills
  • Positive and enthusiastic, hands-on approach with a strong bias to client service
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal with a successful track record in working with staff at all levels
